What are Cyber Camps?

Cyber Camps are exciting 5 day computer daycamps taught by our bright youth interns.  Participants gain valuable new software knowledge, improve existing skills, and experiment with multi-media software in a fun, interactive, learning environment with lots of time for one-to-one learning with the instructors.

Cyber Camp 2008

The dates for the Summer 2009 Cyber Camps are:

July:

6-10, 13-17, 20-24, 27-31

August:

4-7*, 10-14, 17-21

The lesson plan for the 2009 Cyber Camp is still in progress.  More information about course material and topics will be provided on this website in the month of June.

Schedule is subject to change according to the number of registrants.  Weeks with low registration may be merged with others.  We will provide as much notice as possible in the event of a change.  Class sizes can be up to 10 kids but usually range from 5-8.

What is learned in Cyber Camp?

Though Cyber Camp lesson plans vary each year, the following fundatmental topics are still covered: Internet Safety, Windows Orientation, Keyboarding and Mouse Skills, Intro to Microsoft Office and Intro to Hardware.

The multi-media component of Cyber Camp is what typically changes the most.  We do this to keep up with the changing world of software and technology and also so that returning kids can repeat the camp and still gain valuable new skills.

Last year, kids experimented with video editing and stop motion animation.  This year's multi-media focus is yet to be announced.

We encourage families who are on a low income to talk to us if cost is a barrier.  The fee can be completely waived or significantly reduced according to what your family can afford to contribute.

The Sea to Sky Freenet Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring all members of the community have an equal opportunity to benefit from computer and Internet technology.

We provide these camps to ensure that locals kids from families of all income levels have an opportunity to develop and advance their computer skills.  At the same time, the camps provide us with an opportunity to raise much needed funds.  The money raised from cyber camps directly aids the operations of The Hotspot which is a Community Resource Centre in downtown Squamish run by the Freenet and it’s partnering charitable organization the Squamish Volunteer Centre Society.
