Fall/Winter 2010-11 Youth Internships @the Hotspot Community Resource Centre
Our goal at the Hotspot is to integrate youth work and volunteer opportunities into our core operations. All youth positions involve being part of a team that is providing support to community members and local non profit groups that call or drop in to the Hotspot. Our job is make everyone welcome and to do our best to respond to requests and questions. Everyone goes through a comprehensive orientation and training period so that they can do this.
**** In order to qualify for these internships you must : be between 15 and 30 years of age
Positions are usually for 14 weeks for 30 hrs per week. Pay rate is $10/hr. Start date is September 7- March 31, 2011
Wages may be higher for some positions based on available funding.
All positions report to the Hotspot Coordinator and are guided by volunteer mentors from our board and project committees. All youth internships involve additional responsibilities that vary from year to year based on what projects we are involved with and the specific needs of the Hotspot at the time. Assignments also depend on the interests, skills and aptitudes of the Youth that are hired. The core work involved in operating the Hotspot is roughly divided into the following jobs:
Volunteer Centre Coordination Assistant
· Recruit and register volunteers with an additional focus on Youth and Seniors· Carry out regular administrative tasks involved in keeping the Volunteer Centre Databases and website organized and up to date.
· Complete all tasks necessary to seek out, promote and advertise current volunteer opportunities and ultimately find volunteers to fill the positions
· Maintain communications and establish relations with community groups and volunteers

· Carryout the regular operational duties of the Hotspot including customer service, community resource referral, internal administration, maintenance and housekeeping.
Hotspot Resource Centre Worker
· provide primary support to the operation of the Hotspot public access computer lab and community resource and information drop- in centre programs.· Carryout the regular operational duties of the Hotspot including customer service, community resource referral, internal administration, maintenance and housekeeping
· Provide other services to the public including free computer tutoring
· Work on projects for Non-Profit Groups involving various administrative tasks, promotion, event planning, web design, technical support and much more.
· Provide support on a scheduled basis at our other public access locations
Technical Resource Worker
· The maintenance and expansion/upgrading of our lab networks;· Operation of our Reuse IT Computer recycling program;
· The maintenance and expansion/upgrading of our software and web/cms open source linux based systems
· Carryout the regular operational duties of the Hotspot including customer service, community resource referral, internal administration, maintenance and housekeeping
· Provide other services to the public including computer tutoring
· Provide support on a scheduled basis at our other public access locations
